False Start to Spring, Strong Winds, Freezing Rain, all to end February
Southern Ontario is experiencing its first significant snowmelt this winter, with temperatures soaring up to 8°c in areas near Toronto, while more rural regions had temperatures up to near 5°c! This marks one of the latest occurrences for Toronto to have temperatures reach above 5°c this late in nearly several years! Goes to show how remarkably cold this winter was compared to the last few.
This melting will continue for most of the week, raising concerns about flooding. Tuesday isn’t expected to be as sunny as Monday, with the risk of scattered rain showers as well as freezing rain being anticipated throughout the day. Don’t worry though! The winter lovers out there don’t panic, the cold is expected to return late this week as a weak low-pressure system will bring the Arctic air back south, although it isn’t expected to last long before temperatures next week are expected to soar above-average once again.
LATE WEEK TO BRING RAIN/SNOW - WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY
Expected to begin late Wednesday and lasting throughout Thursday, the risk of snow is possible late Wednesday, followed by on and off rain/snow showers on Thursday, due to how weak this system is, it isn’t anticipated to cause significant distruptions. Afterwards, this is to be followed by a significant drop in temperature as this system drags cooler Arctic air back down south, this cool air is expected to last throughout the weekend.
The GTA is expected to see nearly 5cm of snow by the time this weak system moves out, but due to the recent warmth, its possible that the snow accumulations will be lower than expected since the ground is still warm.
ANOTHER SNOWSTORM POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND
After that weak storm, it is to be followed up with a potential snowstorm this weekend thanks to an Alberta clipper, beginning late Friday into Saturday, it has the potential to drop up to 15cm of snow for the majority of the region, although this depends on the track of the low, if it moves further north as per some models, it will drop minimal amounts and will be mixed with rain, but on the contrary, if the low were to move more south, the dominant precipitation is would be snow.
We plan to drop an additional forecast on this system as we inch closer to this event, stay tuned!
FINAL WORDS
We are currently working on a way of developing and creating better forecast graphics, making the images more easier to read! This is going to take us some time to create while developing these forecasts as well. We also have moved image hosts, as our previous host isn’t working as anticipated and we have shifted to a more viable host, we are going to fix the images on the previous post soon once we get properly set up. There are more upgrades planned for our site as well, but we aren’t going to tell you guys what it is just yet 😏.
